Newborn Lifestyle Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a Newborn Lifestyle Session?

A Newborn Lifestyle session is a an in home session that captures a day in the life of you and your family with your new arrival in the natural setting of your home. With very few props to minimal posing, and a relaxed feel, a Newborn lifestyle session allows you to remember baby’s tiny details, relive those first snuggles, and recall all the emotions and love during this special time of your family's life.

2. What is included in a Newborn Lifestyle Session?

As a Lifestyle photographer, my aim is to take raw and beautiful images of your little one in the comfort of your home. I will capture those tiny details including small baby feet and little yawns as he/she sleeps soundly in their own crib. If a nursery is already set up I will capture your little one and your family as you snuggle and look over your baby in this lovely new space. I will also be involving any other siblings as they awe over the new baby. Pets are also part of the family so should you wish I will include them too! Nursing (if you are comfortable), changing diapers, the other children playing -they can all be included in the session.

3. When do Newborn Lifestyle sessions take place?

Studio photographers recommend that Newborn sessions take place within the first 14 days after birth so as to ensure that the baby sleeps soundly during the session. On the other hand, lifestyle photography requires minimal to few poses and hence it can be done anywhere within the first few weeks up to 6 weeks of age since baby can be wide awake during the sessions.

4. How do I prepare for a session?

Bringing baby home is a very special time in your life. Nevertheless, it is a demanding time as you adjust your family's dynamics to fit around your baby's around the clock needs. As a mummy to three daughters aged between 12 to 1 years of age, I know how hard those first few days can be. Hence, it is not of utmost importance to have a clean spotless house-this should be the last thing on your mind. A quick tidy up of those spaces where you want me to take images will be more than enough.

4. What do we wear for the session?

As with other photoshoots, I would always recommend the use of neutral, plain clothing- avoiding logos and prints which can distracting when trying to create beautiful images. Soft pastels such as blush, grey, browns work great. White/grey and ivory/brown color combinations are also always a good option. The focus here is your baby, hence keeping it simple and neutral is key.

5. How do I book in advance without knowing when baby will arrive?

Your due date will be your session date so that we can be sure that you are on my calendar for that month. Once your baby is born and you are ready to go home, all you have to do is to send me a private message on our Facebook page and from there we’ll schedule a definitive session date and time that will be convenient to you.

Once you book your Newborn photo shoot session I’ll send you a detailed email with all the information you need to know, what you can expect from your session, how to prep yourself and your baby and other helpful insights and tips.

6. Being that we are in a pandemic, what are preventive and safety measures that you take as a photographer?

As a mother myself I do understand how important it is to ensure the utmost safety of all your family members. This is even more so in a pandemic situation. As a matter of fact I consider health and safety as a number one priority for my clients. These are amongst the measures and precautions that I take during my sessions:

- present a negative swab test taken in the days prior to the session

- wear a mask during the session

- maintain a safe distance at all times, unless instructed otherwise by the parents

- wear disposable gloves and make frequent use of hand disinfectant

- keep shoes outside of the door

- ensuring that all equipment and props used during the session are all prewashed and sanitised prior to my arrival.
